Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death

Although the Xbox 360 has been the leader in video game consoles over recent periods it has had its problems. One of the problems that continues to surface has been the feared Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death. Ask any Xbox 360 owner and they will probably all answer the same that their biggest fear is getting the dreaded Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death. Its almost like catching a horrible disease! Of course once you get it all you want to do is solve it. Here are a few tips you can use on how to fix the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death.

Before we begin you need to ask yourself if you would be comfortable opening up your Xbox 360 yourself. If not then you probably would not be able to fix the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death by yourself, but not all hope is lost! If you still have a warranty that you received after buying your 360 then you can simply send your Xbox in to Microsoft and have them fix it for you. This may take a few weeks for them to get it repaired, which is why some people take it upon themselves to fix it. Another reason why others choose to fix it themselves is that they do not have their warranty any longer.

In order to fix the problem of the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death we first need to ask ourselves why we even get the Red Ring of Death in the first place. Well the most likely culprit for causing the Red Ring of Death is overheating. In the simplest of cases this can be caused by your Xbox 360 being in too tight of a space so that the heat can not properly disperse. Another reason could be that there is a buildup of dust particles within your Xbox 360 that do not allow for proper airflow. This airflow is crucial for the heating of your Xbox 360 as well as any other common personal computer, because the air passes over heated components and in turn takes the heat out with it.

The first thing that I would recommend you do before you begin taking apart your Xbox 360, and possibly damaging your internal components and voiding your warranty, would be to check and make sure you do not have your 360 in any tight, close spaces, as this is likely to cause over heating. Once you have checked that off the list try blowing out dust particles from the back and sides of your Xbox. You can either try just using your mouth to blow into the 360 or use a dust can to clean out the dust. You can find a dust can at any major retail store like Target or Walmart, most likely in their home office department. I would recommend using the dust can as it has a higher air pressure coming out of it, and you can get it into all the nooks and crannies. Once you have done those two things to fix the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death try turning on your Xbox 360. If it turns on with no problems, great! If not, you should try the next step.

If your still having trouble fixing the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death and have tried the things listed in the last paragraph than you are now going to have to open up your Xbox 360. Opening your Xbox 360 is easier than it may seem. There is plenty of resources that can be found on the web such as tutorial videos found on Youtube, but you can probably find all the information you will need by simply doing a Google search.

Once you have figured out how to open your Xbox 360 you can now get a look at the insides. You will want to locate the heat sink, located right next to the CPU. You are gonna need to order a new heat sink as your old heat sink is the most likely culprit for the Red Ring of Death. Once you have gotten your new heat sink, remove your old one and install the new one. Put your Xbox 360 back together, push the power button, and watch as your 360 comes to life with no problem. Hopefully this guide offered a useful way to fix the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death.
